Boo!

Since many of our classmates don't attend school on Fridays, we celebrated our Halloween party today! Instead of our usual group of 3- and 4-year-olds, we were visited by princesses, superheroes, firemen, ninja, Hello Kitty, Pirate Jake (from "Jake and the Neverland Pirates"), even a rooster! We celebrated by having special Halloween snacks, and then we went trick-or-treating around the school.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Queen Elsa.

Thing 1 builds a tower with some superheroes.

As we visited the third-grade classroom, Spiderman decided it was time to climb in a chair at one of the big desks. When Mrs. LeeAnne told him he looked ready for third grade, he answered matter-of-factly, "I am."

Happy Halloween!

Fall Festival FUN!

Saturday's Fall Festival was a BLAST! We were blessed with beautiful weather, great volunteers, and the best activity at the festival! ;) (Maybe we're just a little biased ...) Families at the festival enjoyed games like fishing, pumpkin bowling, football toss, and a cake walk, and there was plenty of pizza, popcorn, and chili to fill our tummies. K3 sponsored a driving track for the littlest ones, and they loved it!

Scenes from the K3 PowerWheels track.

The littlest festival-goers enjoyed having an activity just for them!

There's never a dull moment when you're watching 3-year-olds drive!

Little Miss Superstar!

Look at these siblings--aren't they sweet?

The highlight of the day was Mr. Tucker spending 30 minutes having pies thrown in his face. What a good sport! Pie-toss tickets were sold as a school fundraiser, and one of our K3 girls was lucky enough to get one.

She has pretty good aim for someone so young!

Huge thanks to the HVCS Parent Council, staff, and parent volunteers who worked so hard to put on such a great festival!

A sweet reward

Several of our kiddos earned a special ice cream treat thanks to their fundraiser sales! We enjoyed ice cream sundaes last week after snack. They were able to choose from vanilla, chocolate, or oreo ice cream (or all three!), sprinkles, crushed cookie toppings, even whipped cream and a cherry!

Cloud dough

Today we made cloud dough! It's an easy combination of corn starch and baby oil, and we added pumpkin pie spice for a yummy scent!

Magic seeds - the big reveal!

We couldn't wait to see what yesterday's magic seeds grew into!

Isn't it amazing how those magic seeds grew into pumpkins overnight? ;-)

Once we "harvested" our pumpkins, we brought them inside and painted them.

We love our pumpkins!

Magic seeds

Since we've been learning about seeds, Mrs. Connie acquired some "magic" seeds.

We planted them in grand fashion today, and we can't wait to see what they grow into!

Visit from the fire truck!

Today we had some super special visitors—four firefighters from the Chattanooga Fire Dept. (and their ladder truck)! Their visit was the perfect finish of our first aid/emergency worker week!

We reviewed stop, drop, and roll, and we talked about the special equipment firefighters use.

Our K-3's were very brave around such unfamiliar people!

One of the most important lessons from today was learning not to hide from a firefighter in the event of an emergency. Often, children are frightened of firefighters wearing their scary suits, helmets, and tanks.Officer Smith put on each piece of her uniform, piece by piece, allowing the children to see that it was really a nice person underneath all that gear.

Finally, we got to walk through the truck!

Some of our kids would have stayed there all day if we'd let them!

Thank you, Station 8, for being so wonderful to our kiddos!
